I’ve moved 16 times in 23 years, living in five different states and three different countries. My current body of work is built in the language of architectural model-making, miniatures, and home construction; no doubt I was influenced by the multitude of architectural marvels surrounding me as I grew up. The pieces themselves are models of the homes and buildings that have been significant to me. I construct the objects using scaled-down versions of traditional carpentry techniques, which makes many of the physical elements familiar and understandable, while the whole object itself might be an abstraction. The structures are necessarily abstract, as they are built from memory, as opposed to photographs or blueprints. With the innate inaccuracy of recollection in mind, I’m not replicating; I’m recreating.
